Flooring Calculator

Enter your room size and price per unit area. We add a waste allowance and estimate how much flooring to order and what it will cost.

About this calculator

Whether it is hardwood, laminate, vinyl or tile, ordering the right amount of flooring matters — too little and you may not be able to match the batch later. This calculator works out your floor area, adds a waste allowance for cuts and mistakes, and estimates the material cost from your price per unit area.

How it works

Floor area is length × width × the number of identical rooms. A waste allowance — usually 5–10% — covers offcuts, errors and pattern matching. The recommended order is the area plus waste, and the cost is that total multiplied by your price per unit area.

Formula: order = area × (1 + waste%) · cost = order × price per unit area

Frequently asked questions

What waste percentage should I use?

Around 10% for most floors, or up to 15% for diagonal layouts and busy patterns that need more matching.

Does it handle several rooms?

Yes, if they are the same size. For rooms of different sizes, run the calculator once per room and add the results.

Metric or imperial?

Both — switch between square metres and square feet with the toggle.

Is the cost exact?

It is an estimate based on the price you enter. It excludes underlay, trim, delivery and labour.
